SOLID ALABASTER · MATTE BLACK STEEL · DRUM SHADE · DOWNWARD WASH · 20″ TALL · INTEGRATED LED

A solid alabaster column carrying a wide drum shade — a brutalist T-silhouette that washes warm light downward across the surface below

Calix is a sculptural table lamp built around a solid alabaster column — pure cream-toned stone with the soft translucency that has made alabaster a luxury material since antiquity. The column rises from a matte black steel disc base and supports a wide alabaster drum shade above, held by minimal black metal brackets. Light from the integrated LED inside washes downward through the open base of the drum, casting a warm pool onto the surface below.

Compact at 40 cm Ø × 50 cm tall (about 15.7″ × 19.7″) — well-scaled for entry consoles, dining sideboards, statement nightstands, and reading desks. Plug-in with inline switch. Integrated LED in 3000K warm white with ~50,000 hours of rated life.

Solid Alabaster Column + Drum

Both the column and the drum shade are cut from solid alabaster — pure cream-toned stone with subtle translucency, matched at our workshop for tonal harmony.

Matte Black Steel Base

The architectural counterpoint — a matte black powder-coated steel disc base, with discreet black collars and brackets that frame the alabaster forms.

Downward-Wash LED

Integrated LED concealed inside the drum casts a warm 3000K pool of light downward — soft on the eyes, dramatic against a wood console or stone surface.

What it's made of

Column + Drum
Solid natural alabaster — pure cream-toned variant, hand-finished
Base + Collars
Matte black powder-coated steel — disc base, top and bottom collars, shade brackets
Light Source
Integrated LED · 3000K warm white · ~50,000 hours rated life
About the alabaster. Calix uses a particularly pure variety of alabaster — variation between pieces is more subtle than traditional fibrous-veined alabaster, but each piece still shows minor variation in tonal warmth and translucency. The cream column may glow faintly when the LED is lit, depending on stone thickness; the drum shade reads more as an opaque sculptural form. Polished steel collars may show fingerprints; a soft microfiber cloth restores the matte finish.

Light & color temperature

FIXED · INTEGRATED LED
3000 K Warm White
A single warm-white setting calibrated for evening reading and ambient lighting. The downward wash highlights the surface below — a wood entry console becomes a small stage, a stone nightstand reveals its grain. Integrated LEDs are factory-set and rated for ~50,000 hours of service. Bulb is not user-replaceable.

Frequently asked

Why does my alabaster look more uniform than typical alabaster I've seen?
Calix uses a particularly pure variety of alabaster — much smoother and more uniform than traditional fibrous-veined alabaster. The brutalist silhouette of Calix calls for a quieter stone surface; the pure variant lets the architecture of the form do the talking. Each piece still shows minor variation in tonal warmth and translucency between batches, but it won't have the dramatic veining of stones like our Cairn Floor Lamp.
How does the light work?
The integrated LED sits concealed inside the drum shade. Light shines downward through the open base of the drum, casting a warm pool onto the surface below the lamp. There's no glare visible from above — Calix is designed to light the surface and the room around it indirectly, not to be a reading light. For task lighting, pair Calix with a dedicated reading lamp or under-cabinet light.
Does the alabaster column glow?
Faintly, depending on the stone's thickness and grain. The column may glow softly along its visible portion when the lamp is on, particularly in dimmer rooms. The drum shade reads more as an opaque sculptural form — you'll see the cream stone colored by the warm LED, but light primarily exits through the drum's open base. The effect is more architectural than translucent.
Where does Calix look best?
The 20″ height and brutalist T-silhouette make Calix ideal for surfaces that can hold a sculptural object: entry consoles (paired with a mirror or art), dining sideboards, statement nightstands, large reading desks, and gallery-wall vignettes. The downward-wash light is especially effective on warm wood — a walnut console or oak credenza catches the pool beautifully. Less ideal as a bedside reading light, since the light direction is downward rather than around.
Can I dim Calix?
Yes — Calix is compatible with most Triac-based wall dimmers. Simply plug Calix into a dimmer-compatible outlet or controlled switch. Smart dimmers (Lutron Caséta, Leviton Decora Smart) work as well. The integrated LED dims smoothly across the standard range without flicker.
How much does it weigh?
Approximately 6-8 kg (13-18 lb). The solid alabaster column and drum carry significant weight, and the steel base adds further anchoring at the bottom. Calix won't tip from a passing brush. We recommend lifting from the steel base, not the alabaster column or drum, when repositioning.
How do I clean the alabaster?
Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth — never use acidic cleaners (lemon, vinegar, bleach) or abrasive sponges, which will permanently etch the natural surface. The alabaster ships pre-sealed; light dusting is all most owners ever need. For the matte black steel base, a soft microfiber cloth removes fingerprints.
The bulb isn't replaceable — what happens at end of life?
Integrated LEDs are factory-set and rated for ~50,000 hours of typical use — that's more than 17 years at 8 hours per day. If the LED ever fails within that lifetime, contact us for service options.
Is Calix certified for North America and Europe?
Yes. It holds certifications compatible with North America, Saudi Arabia, Europe, and Australia and operates on AC 110–240V worldwide.

CASAI Lighting

"Alabaster does not merely hold light — it breathes with it, casting a warmth that cannot be manufactured, only discovered."
Formed through millions of years of slow crystallisation, alabaster is among the world's most ancient decorative stones. When illuminated, it yields a quiet, golden luminosity — gentle, organic, irreducibly human. Our collection exists to honour that rarity, designing forms that allow the stone to speak without interruption.

Natural Character
No two stones
are ever alike.
Alabaster carries within it a geological autobiography — millions of years compressed into veining, crystalline structures, and tonal shifts that no craftsman could plan or replicate
